The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 硬是把驱魔片拍成了丧尸片。全片最精彩的地方就在于最后的驱魔part，居然是魔鬼驱上帝。
我不想看懂，作为恐怖片是十分的不好看！整个电影的节奏稀碎。后面是丧尸吗？干啥呢那是，比谁嗓门儿大嘛吗？
剧情温吞的想骂人。21年了还有这种同质化严重的小妞电影真是不敢想象。
讲真，比特么招魂3好看多了，最起码前半部分算个精彩的驱魔片，反向驱魔的设定可以更精彩的，可惜拍成了比谁嗓门大！
外国驱鬼也太方便了，念念有词就行。我要是鬼，第一下就去割掉他的舌头。
本来就很犹豫看不看驱魔的 这部看完后又对驱魔片的反感加了浓墨重彩的一笔…有一定的新意 都在后面 前面充斥各种老套的喊叫 就感觉谁的声音大谁就能干过对方一样 这个神父也真是弱的可以 …对于国外邪教的 驱魔的我好像一直没对胃口 这部耶稣与恶魔的错综复杂我没太懂 也懒得懂了
创意加分，从结局看来
驱魔失控结孽胎，惭恨萦怀口难开。
魔鬼的女体不应该无暇清纯的幻觉点么，太丑了这恶神父也下得去嘴？
好喜欢，轻喜剧，高颜值，小清新，性张力也很足。本是竞争对手，天天除了打嘴炮还有心理战，却在日常的斗嘴过程中互生情愫，好像一个游戏又加了爱情的味道。和竞争对手的激烈竞争也可以成就一个更好的自己，to be a better version of ourselves。势均力敌的爱情，有点甜。
你离上帝有多近 就离魔鬼有多近
质量③星，冲着设定概念有意思+①。
