The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 《怒火重案》绝对是剧本和制作都极硬气的类型佳作。随着这一代电影人一一离去，这样的华语电影也许真的是看一部少一部了，香港电影人把动作片的制作技巧发展到了极致并传播到全世球，成为世界电影工业史上永被铭记的一代，却成了华语电影失落的亚特兰蒂斯帝国。影片最后红色光点布满谢霆锋全身，他站在钢琴上质问命运的一刻，可能是我今年看到最悲伤的华语电影画面了。片尾陈木胜导演名字出现，瞬间泪目。愿华语电影的未来不仅仅是一个英雄的马拉松，而是一代代热爱电影人的接力赛，越跑越远，永远传承。🕯️
敖哥一开始就违反原则了，为什么要听领导的话呢？虽然领导承诺了，但他让你做什么你都去做吗？私以为这牢坐的不冤，他就咬一咬队友，拉开不就行了？为什么又要用棍子打呢？邦主虽然死板了点，但是他起码是一个不会逃避，做事自己承担的人。
再也看不到陈木胜导演这样的香港本地气质的动作枪战片了。。。
有港片巅峰期的水准。甄子丹设计的动作戏拳拳到肉，硬碰硬直接刚。谢霆锋这次的癫狂角色让人想到小丑，演技爆棚。失去陈木胜这样的导演，我们以后还能看到这么热血沸腾的港片么？这不是我一个人的想法，出电影院的时候有个妹纸也和她朋友说起这个。前段时间看的一个TVB港剧里男二还在吐槽，这年头谁还看港剧？被港片港剧滋养长大的我还是很希望港片港剧能重回辉煌。
是反派主角谢霆锋的电影，永远怀念陈木胜导演！
硬朗严峻，各种死者的特写（突然觉得相衬起来《拆弹专家2》还真的更像神话（不是贬义，是说周处除三害）文戏的比例很大，大到那种迷失在暴力中的痛苦有了现实的和超现实的重叠，令人难过。我觉得不是“用过即弃”。而是异化。被残害的警察和作恶的警察的形象交错出现。腐败的高层（但任达华吕良伟都好暖），自私的上级，清高的前辈，不甘心的干才。不是没有错，但是有冤仇有恨。个人的快感极点是兜眉心打死霍兆堂，在现金窟里。爆破广东道太酷烈，进地道的时候我突然大哭起来。忍不住。最后那个装修中的教堂也可以说在致敬吴宇森吧。但最好评的场景，提名泥烂南亚村。香港之伤。很喜欢最后越南仔的运命之问。然而张sir没有回答
致敬陈木胜导演。（谢霆锋也就一般吧，最后要是给反派加个撒钱的戏份，那就真的会很爽）
香港警匪片常见的主题，反思警察系统，以及善恶的思辨。只不过这反思太浅尝辄止了，影片的重点仍是打架，打架，帅帅地打架。在拍出一部港版Joker和一部快节奏动作爽片之间，很遗憾选择了后者。但是我为什么要给五星？因为我三观跟着五官跑，谢霆锋太帅了啊啊啊啊啊啊！！
好气，看到一半被领导叫走了！谢霆锋实在太帅了，等视频平台上线了我要截图！
人物刻畫太薄，文戲撐不起武戲，但還是想加一顆星給那個氛圍。他仰天倒下去，在聖母像上將頭顱磕得粉碎。所以，是正義終於戰勝了邪惡了嗎？In Loving Memory of Our Beloved HK Movies.
三星的港产片子，陈木胜导演加一星，如果谢霆锋和甄子丹都两人互换角色就5星，
幸亏还有谢霆锋，要不然香港的动作电影里就只剩下一帮老头了
7分，感觉剧情设置上和《拆弹专家2》有些重复，相似的白变黑故事，相似的价值取向冲突，不知道这是不是未来港匪片的标配了😂。特效和动作上还是没话说，两位男主间的打斗依然精彩。
陈木胜的遗作，港风很重，音乐很振，打斗很硬，谢霆锋很飒，甄子丹很勇。
动作戏还是很给力的，一到文戏就拉胯，都在夸谢霆锋帅，但我觉得他演技甚至还达不到10年前线人的水平~7.0
往事：富商被绑架，上司催促尽快破案以讨好富商，授意下属滥用私刑，导致嫌疑人死亡，律政司告上法庭，上司推卸责任，警察同伴目击坚持讲真话，被判刑。
和《拆弹专家2》的背景设定有相似处，都有香港现实社会矛盾的映射，剧作灵感明显来自“七警案”。剧情走向小心翼翼，八面玲珑，电影内外有着相似的无奈，还有点小深刻。
最后一幕虽然都放在教堂了，但是这个人设本身还是很难扭回来。当然片尾直接转到缅怀陈木胜导演，那又是另外一回事了，RIP
