Larrain对一些表演的捕捉在这部电影中形成了一种诡异的风格，给这个远去的故事一个过于私人的调性。极度弱化的皇室群像、演员躲避直视的眼神和对Anne Boleyn的暴力引用，都减弱了它作为真实事件的语气，故事处于一个快速推进的情感洪流中，戴安娜作为主角却毫无依靠。
