The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 如果把所有意指符号都很清晰地堆砌在观众脸上，那么这部片就既不算是诡异浪潮，也称不上心理恐怖，而是很无聊的形象政论吧。不过，如果能把这部片子介绍给大陆男宝看看也是不错的，起码能让他们理解一下女性对男性的恐惧从何而来，然而大陆女性要面临的问题可不是人家西方后现代社会那样简单。
巴克利咋总演这种角色啊……片子整体太像达伦的《母亲》
这两年看了不少这种带有内在的主题探讨而外在表现选择恐怖/惊悚题材的影片，并且其主题大多为性别议题，似乎带有足够富有猎奇性质和视觉冲击力的类型元素能够很好地映射现实社会中女性面临的困境。
繁殖和塑造“男性”的其实是男性自己古老而野蛮的观念而不是性器;我们被拒绝入内所造成的伤害标记了我们的无可辩驳的同一性。隐喻的清澈和工整与诗意十足统一了，这种统一成为第一目标而使叙事似乎只发生在十五分钟以内。
是我们当下需要的“女性主义”电影。画面色彩和故事内核很Midsommar，最后一段令人瞠目结舌的隐喻有Mother!的味儿了，很wtf很直白，要是再克制点就更好了。but still影史级的恐怖桥段+精准的对toxic masculinity/slut shaming/PUA的刻画和反击=年度恐影。

独居的恐惧，被暴露狂跟踪的恐惧，被强奸的恐惧，被婚姻束缚的恐惧，被随意批判的恐惧，生育的恐惧…这么理解就还挺吓人的

带着文艺气质的心理惊悚，后半部分直接cult氛围拉满，口味轻的同学慎看……五星推荐，把女性对男性恐惧的沉浸感，做得特别好。画面，音效，氛围，美的令人心醉，惊悚的使人毛骨悚然。在这样的夏天，真的相当消暑降温了。
看得出來導演的中肯~~但是原罪~自大~利己~慾望~渴望愛之類的~~不感興趣不關心~~
后三分之一太精彩的cult片。男女权的对立，不过是想要被爱的证明。本来以为是女导演写的故事，没想到是男导演，好像一切又都说得通了。相当惊喜的恐怖片。
用电影这种形式展示这世界真是无处不在虫南对女人的恶意，配乐和最后诡异的半个小时真是不错，同时除了那个小孩，仅用一个男演员来塑造小镇上所有的男性，正可谓天下乌鸦一般黑
这两年很流行这种类型的恐怖片，美轮美奂的风景镜头+迷幻的音乐+离奇夸张的符号隐喻，营造出一种梦境般的割裂。最后的连环生子还挺恶心的。远离男人，不然男人死也不会放过你的。
第一幕完成度非常高，诡异的氛围从始至终都维持得很棒，有民俗恐怖的特点。第二幕一来被预告剧透，二来过于直白，力度就弱了些，而且太多无所适从的慢镜头和剪辑让我很迷惑。结尾被评论剧透，有些心理准备，但更多的是电影本身泄了气，所以荒谬大于可怖，还是非常遗憾。这部电影能让我想起《Them》和《Lovecraft Country》这两部剧，和前者除立意外，就连标题几乎都如出一辙，而后者自然是 cult 场面的联想，提到这一点，我不太相信导演没有看过 extraweg 的作品。最后想说一句，对于类似形象的塑造，杰西·巴克利比伊丽莎白·莫斯水平要高出一大截。
3+，氛围迷人。最后的分娩谁看了不得说牛逼，这器官比未来罪行猛啊。
女权文艺恐怖片。可惜目标观众不是三者的合集，得是交集。
太多暗喻，太多要表达的东西了，成品太乱、太夸张，故作高深，其实要讲的谁都明白，有装b的嫌疑
被预告里的摄影吸引来看的，期待值非常高，但最终呈现的内容确实是意料之外。我看懂了它想要表达的含义，但却没办法喜欢。看完之后像被扼住了喉咙，不知道该从什么角度去消化它的现实意义。如果艺术能仅仅停留在艺术就好了。
