The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 哎结尾挺好，奴隶屈服于现实，这种电影确实不多了，虽然故事讲的挺好，但是哪里看着不对劲… 感觉男主还是顺从的太快了，得有点儿所谓的大起大落才会让电影更好看一些，比如手刃自己兄弟?…
白老头也一样是囚徒，一个口哨就证明了。每个人都是囚徒，能力强些的还有机会给你选是否升一级
最终成为了获得所谓的自由，其他反抗的人，将日复一日成为囚徒。
革命不彻底就是这揍性。

人性如此，这也是拉美那种弱肉强食的人吃人黑暗一直持续的原因之一；当男主在老板喝醉后仍把枪放回桌上之后，他在议员家就应该不会再问什么做完工会不会给工人自由这个问题了。
原罪是穷，巴西底层不允许有感人泪，只有在血中博生存，救自己，亲朋皆是如此。

为什么虚伪和道德感一定要是冲突的？又或者说在接受了剥削者的思维后为什么一定就是虚伪的，所有的剥削都源自于蓬勃的欲望，当欲望升腾到一定程度，只需要一个烟头烫伤的痕迹，就可以改变一切轨迹。

应该是个好电影，演员表演也非常真实。但看得很压抑，现实让人一言难尽。
看完这部电影 更加肯定了自己是一个数学学渣 。。。
意义好像很大，但是电影很难看。。。
当一个老师说出学生最大的任务就是理解考官意图的时候，无疑是整个教育体系的失败。韩国如此，中国如此。韩国编剧真的有些东西，上一次看到用数学谈恋爱，这一次用数学弹钢琴。本文科生被迷得五迷三道的。

get到的点是，韩国电影的温情，数学之美，少年大叔同样缺失又互相治愈，忘年交，π的演奏曲...
