In 1865, during the siege of Richmond, Virginia, the union soldiers POW Captain Harding, Neb and Herbert escape in a balloon during a storm with two confederate prisoners, Sergeant Pencroft and the journalist Spilett. The uncontrollable wind takes the balloon to a mysterious island in the South Pacific in the area of New Zealand. Captain Harding self-proclaims the leader of the group and they look for food; sooner they discover that they are stranded in an island. Further, they are attacked by a giant crab that becomes their first meal. Along the days, they build a shelter and finds that the island is inhabited by giant animals. A couple of days later, they find two castaways on the beach, the aristocratic Lady Mary Fairchild and her sexy niece Elena. Later they find a trunk with weapons and instruments like sextant and shelter with a journal of a man left alone in the island by pirates. When the pirate vessel arrives in the island, they are helped by Captain Nemo of the Nautilus, a submarine that had supposedly sunk in the coast of Mexico eight years ago. 莫名其妙的故事，人物关系和进展也很莫名，除了一点虐囚的镜头，真是乏善可陈
《出租车司机》导演+《醉乡民谣》男主角+《头号玩家》男主角 打的一手迷幻牌，喜欢导演这严谨的视觉格调。

讲着讲着监狱里犯人被如何如何羞辱，然后编剧就忘了自己为啥要讲这个；讲着讲着主角参加牌局到了总决赛，然后主角入狱，总是赌博也不是重点咯，那重点是这个欠了很多债的少年吗？好像也不是，没有感情戏，没有事业线，没有无限明亮的政治正确宣传，也没有文艺闷片的氛围感，我，真的看不懂，虽然男主真是蛮帅的（除了肚腩）
节奏慢，价值观不主流。William想帮助cirk走出丧父阴影，但失败了。William自己也抛下了最看重的赌局替Cirk复仇，导致自己再度入狱，与爱人分离。披着赌局的外壳，探讨的还是虐囚问题和人性。讽刺的是，有些东西，想摆脱才发现已经刻进了骨髓，当镜头扫过上校家包着白布的家具时，一切已经了然。

stay away from FOCUS company, which is famous of producing profound, meaningful, well acted but ... extremely BORING films!
比《第一歸正會》難看不少。尋求救贖的男人總喜歡在一塵不染的房間裡頭寫字自省哦！可真把WSOP拍得毫無競技性可言。那個USA真是牌技高超的白男沙雕，演員搭配和表演調度看得怪尷尬的。這片子各方面都人工且直白，賭場裝潢不洋氣，但電影不能這麼不講究的吧。
